Launchers and Receivers
The purpose of a pig launcher or receiver is to introduce or retrieve pigs, spheres or inspection tools from a pipeline. Launchers and receivers are built to suit the specific requirements of a pipeline.
To complement our range of pigs and spheres Pipeline Engineering has the in-house engineering, manufacturing and testing capacity to produce pig and sphere launching and receiving systems to meet specific requirements of clients. This includes simple barrel launchers and receivers through to complete skid mounted units that include actuated valves, instrumentation, pig signallers control systems.
Launchers and receivers for sub-sea, off-shore and onshore are available. All units are designed and manufactured to pipeline and vessel design codes including:
- NACE
- ASME VIII
- BS 5500
- ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8
Our capacity ranges from 2” NS to 54” NS, ANSI Ratings 150# to 2500# and API, using carbon, stainless and alloy steel materials
Multiple Launcher & Receiver Units
These units are designed to allow the sequential launching of pigs and spheres. In conjunction with release fingers and/or coordinated valve operation the launch process can be controlled remotely enabling traps to be installed on unmanned platforms and facilities. This enables sequential launching to take place without having to repeatedly de-pressurise and re-pressurise after each launching. The process can also be controlled from a remote location. This is particularly relevant on unmanned platforms such as offshore platforms and sour service applications.
Pipeline Engineering will design systems ‘tailor-made' to meet specific operational requirements. This can include:
- Multiple valve operation
- Automatic or manually operated sphere release systems
- Integrated skid mounted packages
The launch of spheres or pigs is controlled by automatic or manual Release Fingers which allow individual sequential launching into the pipeline.
In addition to the supply of newly manufactured Pig/Sphere Launchers and Receivers, Pipeline Engineering can supply a maintenance and refurbishment service to existing in service launchers and receivers. Please complete our enquiry form to request this service.
