Offshore Oil & Gas

Offshore Oilrig with a transport ship moored up beside itPE manufactures a range of polyurethane systems that are used in the Offshore Oil & Gas industry. Features of PE Polyurethane systems that make them particularly suited to use in this environment include:

  • Excellent resistance to environmental degradation
  • Neutral buoyancy
  • Good load carrying properties
  • Excellent tensile characteristics
  • Suitable for a wide range of operating temperatures

PE’S experience and expertise in this sector and the quality of our polyurethanes enables us to produce products to meet the exacting and challenging requirements of different offshore requirements.

Bend Restrictors are designed to restrict the bending of umbilicals and cables by locking when the minimum bend radius is reached

Features of PE Bend Restrictors include:

  • Near neutral buoyancy
  • Excellent tensile characteristics
  • Good resistance to the effects of ageing
  • Good resistance to the marine environment
  • Excellent load bearing properties across a broad temperature range
  • Good wear and abrasion performance
  • Compliance with API 17J Appendix B

PE Bend Restrictors are designed to bend up to a lock out limit or minimum bend radius above that of the flexible, thereby preventing buckling or damage. They are also designed to a maximum stress or bending moment that exceeds the highest load that will be experienced.

PE Bend Restrictors are for static applications. They are designed as interlocking vertebrae, each comprising two polyurethane half sections. This half section design allows for more rapid assembly of the bend restrictor, either on-site or at the factory.

Cable Centralisers and J-Tube Seals

Cable Centralisers are designed to maintain the position of a cable within a J-Tube bell and reduce the cable movement during service life

Cable / Umbilical / Pipe Protection

cmputer generated image of a section of yellow cabple protector pipeThe increasing use of subsea flexible lines and cables has resulted in ever greater use of specially designed protection products.

The PE range of cable protection products is manufactured from high grade polyurethane offering:

  • Excellent abrasion and impact absorption characteristics
  • A high degree of resistance to the marine environment

For normal levels of protection, PE produces a half shell design which is strapped together around the flexible using corrosion resistant metal bands. This design offers great flexibility in terms of installation and adaptability to a broad range of flexible cable / pipe external diameters.

Foam Protection Blocks (Star Bars)

Foam protection blocks (Star Bars) consist of a durable polyurethane foam coated with a highly abrasion and tear resistant polyurethane coating.

Polyurethane Expertise

PE’s expertise in polyurethane technology allows us to cast liquid polyurethane into precision made mouldings to exacting standards, meeting our own very strict dimensional tolerances. Detailed quality checks and testing are carried out on all components.
