Production Cleaning Services

Debris and deposits in pipelines will reduce product flow and if left unchecked can result in pipelines becoming blocked. A planned cleaning programme for pipelines will prevent the build-up of debris or deposits and therefore help ensure the expected product throughput is achieved.

PE offers a range of specialist engineering services to support the planned cleaning of production pipelines.

Case Study

Wax / Scale Removal from a Crude Oil Pipeline

blue cleaining pig viewd frm the siteA client was having problems caused by the build up of wax / scale in 10", 12", 16", 20" and 30" crude oil pipelines. The 30" pipeline had not been pigged throughout its 30 year operational life.

PE prepared a progressive cleaning programme which was discussed and agreed with the client. The pipeline was taken out of service and put into water. Cleaning tools ranging from simple bare foam pigs to bi-directional wire brush cleaning tools and bi-directional bulldozer tools were propelled down the line using water.

Initially large quantities of wax were removed and as the cleaning operation became more aggressive, hard scale and metallic debris were also removed.

The progressive cleaning programme was carried out over a seven day period and a total of seventeen cleaning tools were run. The pipeline was put back into service and is now regularly pigged to avoid wax and scale build-up.
